U.S. Olympic Star-best in the world!

With the Olympics and America’s Bicentennial only a year away, the 1975 line takes on a patriotic theme.  “Our Olympic Favorite!” was the theme for the two-year advertising campaign started in this year in association with the 1976 Olympics.  Ken is represented in the Olympic campaign in doll and fashion form.  Gold Medal Fashion #7245 was a runner’s outfit, and Gold Medal Get Ups 'N Go #7247 was a hockey outfit.   Best Buy Fashion #9127, was a spirited outfit designed for America’s instant love for wearing red, white, and blue.  Mattel, getting more control of their finances, releases four domestic and two foreign versions of Ken in 1975.

Ski!

Gold Medal Olympic Skier Ken #7261 (Box Date 1974) will be the only domestic Olympic themed Ken.  The doll used is identical in mold and markings to 1974’s The Sports Set Sun Valley Ken #7808.  He is represented as a skier again, but in Olympic garb. Touted as “U.S. Olympic Star-best in the world!” Ken doesn’t let Olympic fans down in his red, white, and blue ski outfit with belt and #9 marked yellow entry vest.  He has all the accessories he will need to compete, with red hat, goggles, boots, and blue skis and poles.  Obviously he is already claimed the gold medal, which he wears on a chain around his neck.  The box on this Ken is predominately white, and is a combination of box and carded style.
