Keeping Ken  Keeping Ken Ken News!

We have a winner!

Linda Leake-Beard, Piffard, NY USA

Congratulations goes out to Linda for her far-out, fabulously Mod date for Barbie® doll (pictured below)! Linda is the proud owner of the fabulous prizes listed below (prizes awarded November 30, 2002).  Linda's creation gave me a whole new appreciation of the 1988 Ken® head mold! Isn't it awesome?

Thanks to all who entered and made this contest a success! All of the entries submitted were spectacular! And special thanks to Jack Wootten (Judge) and our special sponsor Sandi Holder!

Entrant Rules

The most important thing is that you're expressing your creativity! Let that come through in your doll and fashion design.  Your doll and fashion design must adhere to the time era, but you can use a modern doll with the flare of the era.

You will be creating a doll and fashion, not a scene.  Just a Mod era design doll influenced by the dates 1969-1972.  Think about how your doll might compliment the same era Barbie® doll, if he was dressed for a date with her.  You can use whatever doll (or pieced together doll parts) you want, as long as it is a male doll and he is 12" tall.

The fashion must be original and done by a single person.  Limit of one article of clothing or accessory that has been manufactured.

A Judge will be looking at your pictures, not the actual doll.  It is important that the picture background doesn't distract from the doll and fashion (see rules).  Make sure your pictures have adequate lighting, clear and sharp!

  • Only one doll. Must be 12" male doll (Not limited to Mattel).

  • Doll must be on a stand.

  • If using props, the props must be in the doll's hand. No backdrop, or furniture permitted.

  • Doll/original outfit completed by a single person.

  • Limit of one article of clothing or accessory that has been manufactured.

  • Doll and fashion design must adhere to the time era of 1969-1972, but you can use a modern doll with the flare of the era.

  • There will be no specific background in your pictures.  Please take your pictures against a white, neutral or pastel color background.  Again, no scene, no furnishings.  The picture background should not distract from the doll and fashion.

  • Entrant must submit a limit of two pictures. One full shot mandatory, the other will be the decision of the entrant, perhaps a detail of the doll or fashion created.

  • Pictures will be accepted in either .jpg format or 4x6 color prints.  Send pictures in .jpg format to mailto:jef@manbehindthedoll.com, or color 4x6 prints by US Mail.  Please use the email address to request mailing address.  Include your first and last name and complete mailing address with your entry.

  • Contest open to entrants worldwide.

  • Please submit your pictures from July 3, 2002 through October 31, 2002.  Pictures that are mailed must be postmarked on or before October 31, 2002.  Emailed .jpg pictures must be received by October 31, 2002, 11p CST.

  • Winner announced November 17, 2002.

  • Prizes awarded November 30, 2002.
